Who would benefit from occupational therapy-hippotherapy or outdoor therapy?
Anyone who benefits from occupational therapy! Do you find yourself and your child spending too much time spent in hospitals, classrooms, doctors offices? Perhaps your child is burnt out from therapy or doesn't tolerate clinic therapy well? Do they need a new environment, more time outdoors, and the calming effects of animals? Then your child may benefit from hippotherapy, outdoor therapy, or one of our seasonal social groups! We see kids 3 years old and up, including adolescents and adults! The equine environment and experience helps improve sensory integration, emotional regulation, and sensory integration. The unique environment of the outdoors, the barn/arena, and horses promotes relaxation, reduces anxiety, and enhances motivation, making it an effective and enjoyable therapy option for those seeking to improve their daily living skills and overall quality of life. While we see a wide variety of diagnosis and this is not an all inclusive list, a few examples that benefit greatly include: anxiety, autism spectrum disorder, sensory processing disorder, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, genetic disorders, developmental delay, traumatic brain injury, post-stroke, and so much more!
Types of Occupational Therapy that we offer:
HippotherapyHippotherapy is occupational therapy utilizing equine movement. Our licensed occupational therapist and occupational therapy assistant combine occupational therapy knowledge and techniques utilizing the equine movement and the equine environment to help you/your child reach your occupational therapy goals. Sessions are billed under occupational therapy codes to your insurance, covered by insurance similarly to clinic occupational therapy. Hippotherapy can, and often should, be in conjunction with clinic occupational therapy in order to complement and maximize progress towards occupational therapy goals.

Outdoor Therapy
Our outdoor areas for occupational therapy will provide all the elements essential for any traditional occupational therapy session such as motor skills, executive functioning, attention, sensory modulation, amongst other areas! Our clinic is surrounded by beautiful farmland, natural light, and a quiet atmosphere which provides a great place for children with sensitivity to sensory experiences. OT in an outdoor setting provides a unique experience for addressing a variety of functional goals. Outdoor spaces provide sensory experiences which assist with attention, mental health, and overall well-being. OT sessions will at times include unmounted engagement with horses and address areas such as social-emotional skills and grooming and hygiene.

Sundance Stables Social Groups (seasonal)Registration for Sundance Stable Social: Nurturing Little Learners is NOW OPEN!
We are very excited to host seasonal social groups, led by our occupational therapist, Tiffany. Social groups are open to the public (you do not have to be a current patient), however pre-registration is required (no drop-ins). Social groups provide a supportive environment where kids can develop essential social skills, build confidence, and foster friendships. Through group activities and interactions, children learn to communicate effectively, share, cooperate, and resolve conflicts. These groups also offer a sense of belonging and community, helping kids feel understood and accepted. Additionally, participating in social groups can enhance emotional intelligence, reduce feelings of isolation, and promote overall well-being, making them a valuable experience for a child's growth and development. |
