Volunteers Change Lives

SUBMIT NEW VOLUNTEER APPLICATION

Thank you
so much for your interest in volunteering for our program at Sundance Circle Hippotherapy.  We could not fulfill our mission of improving outcomes and placing people on the path to success and recovery without our amazing team of volunteers.

Volunteer Roles

Volunteers in all roles must be able to walk one to two miles without rest and safely lift at least 20 pounds.
A hippotherapy facility depends on a variety of volunteer positions to operate effectively. At Sundance Circle Hippotherapy, our volunteer opportunities include:
  • Sidewalker: walks alongside the horse, supporting the patient under the direction of the therapist.
  • Horse Leader: leads the horse during sessions, manages horse behavior.
  • Barn Team: includes a variety of sub-roles such as stall cleaning, bring in and turn out, feeding, and cleaning the pastures.
  • Facilitator: prepares the horse for sessions including grooming and tacking.
  • Exerciser: give the horse the required exercise and schooling under the direction of the Barn Manager. These positions are limited and must be approved by the Barn Manager.
Each role comes with specific training and support so that we can help you to help us!

Important Information

  • Our volunteer opportunities are divided into shifts as well as roles.  We really like our volunteers to be able to commit to your scheduled time on a regular basis.
  • As part of your application you will be required to submit to a background check, sign a drug free workplace agreement, and a confidentiality agreement.
  • Volunteers should dress comfortably and plan to be outside in the elements for at least part of the time.  Having the appropriate attire will make your stay more comfortable and safe.  Closed toe sturdy shoes are a must!
  • Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.  All volunteers must complete the liability release form.  Minors under the age of 18 must have a legal guardian or parent co-sign their liability release as well.
